Clash of the titans vol 3 (Lodz, May 28th)

Wojtek and I met again in Lodz today. We played 15 games in total. 12 of them were played outdoors in the Park Staromiejski. Two games were played in Pierrogeria (where we drank tea) and one in Nefretete House (where we ate *shawarma).

Staromiejski Park has 20 chess tables and its atmosphere made me think of Washington Square Park. There were chess and card players playing for money and drinking booze. The local players watched some of our games and were asking us about the rules. One of the permanent residents of the park assured us this game has never been played in this park before.

It was something special, but the best thing of all is that I finally won the battle - by 8-7.

In two weeks' time it's the Polish Championship and I'm confident I can do well. Providing I get the right tiles, of course :)

creme de la creme

The 5th Polish Championship in English Scrabble starting in less than 3 weeks' time in Warsaw is going to be somewhat special.
The reason for that is the comeback of the 2005 champion who represented Poland in the WSC 2005 in London. This means that in this championship there will be playing two past champions and one current champion. But the hot favorite is in my opinion a person who is not yet a champion - not on the Polish ground at least.

A linguistic puzzle

Task:
Figure out the X from the following text:

At Board 3, X beats Y 586-274 and is the only person at 13-7. Her +1255 spread is the largest in the division, and gives him about a 1% chance of winning the event: she's not totally out of the running yet, but needs to win all four of his remaining games, and have the other top players all lose to underdogs.

Additional task:
What's the sex of the X?

So I met with Wojtek again to play Scrabble.
The venue was very nice - Pub pod Pstrągiem in the Skaryszewski Park situated next to the new football stadium (still not ready for Euro 2012) in Warsaw.
It was raining and blowing for the first part of the day so after 3 games outside we went inside and played another 9 games.
Final score: 7-5 for Wojtek.
I can't wait to see the blanks stats as I'm almost certain the blanks and S's were not on my side... again.

We're planning to meet again in Lodz in about two weeks' time and I hope to finally win.
