10 months until next WSC and there's still not any visible action on the side of Polish Scrabble Federation regarding qualification criteria for the World Championship. Is it normal?
Probably yes if you take into account that there are only three players truely interested in playing in it.
Scrabble played in English is on the rise in Poland - at least in our small group of three. We are getting better each year so maybe we should start to be treated better? Is it fair for us to request to have more than 12 games to determine who will represent Poland at the the next WSC? Can we count that unlike last time we will get a tournament director?
Well maybe WSC is not that important after all...

You, the competitive Polish scrabble players in English are the only one who should say to the federation how you want to dispute the qualification tournament. As an idea, the system used in Romania in 2009 and probably repeated in 2011, was based on the fact that only 4 players (me, Dan, Mihai and Ovidiu) are very active and, therefore, enough good ones to be considered favourites to win it. So, there were 3 phases of a 3 days tournament. First phase was to divide us in 2 groups based on the internal results from the last qualifications since the date of the tournament. If there were to particiapte more than 1 other player who wants to take part, we should have been divided them like number 1, number 4 and half of the other players in one Round Robin tournament and number 2, number 3 and the other half in another RR. It was only one player, so it was a pre-qualification day in a small Round Robin tournament with number 3 and number 4. The rules stated that the tournament is finished once the first two players are known. In the second phase we played a quadruple Round Robin tournament, meaning 4 games each one vs each other, 12 ganes per player. Also, the rules stated that the tournament is finished once the first two players are known. In fact, it finished after round 10. Finally, the last phase, it was a final between first 2 players, meaning Dan and Mihai in 2009, 5 games won out of 9. It was a very dramatic final. Dan had lead 3-0 and 4-2, but Mihai finally beated him 5-4 and took the place to WSC. We had a referee from our federation, you should try to dispute the final in Warsaw or where you are sure it lives a referee, so not to be problems with who pay the trip expenses for him. You should talk and after you all will agree of a tournament format and dates for it, present the proposal to the federation and I'm sure they will accept it, otherwise I'm sure they don't know the details of a qualification tournament in English.
